In Vitro Fertilization – How is it done? With Dr Felipe Lazar Junior

Today, I am very pleased to receive one of the most respected specialists in the field of fertility for a chat on the subject: Dr Felipe Lazar, an obstetrician specializing in human reproduction.

Generating a child is a dream of many women, but there are cases where fertility can become an obstacle and then what is the way out? What procedures can be used to circumvent increasingly frequent infertility problems? Today, too, many women want to be moms later than they were in not-so-distant times. Thanks to the evolution of medicine and some new resources that have emerged, postponing motherhood has been very common and the career has come to the fore. However, advanced medicine can help, but in some cases, postponing motherhood can become a race against time to become a mother.

In vitro fertilization has been much more sought after by this public, women who chose to wait longer to be mothers and thus use this magnificent resource to shorten the path and achieve a pregnancy in less time than it would be in a natural conception. But it has also been a great resource for more delicate cases, couples who would not have a chance of having a “natural” pregnancy can and should benefit from these procedures. To talk better about IVF I went to talk to Dr Felipe Lazar Junior who is a specialist in human reproductionand deals every day with cases and more cases of couples who seek pregnancy through in vitro fertilization be caused by apparent infertility, not apparent or even by option. In the interview Dr Felipe clarified several doubts and also explained in detail what IVF is all about and the treatments that can be done by couples.

In the interview with Dr Felipe about in vitro fertilization I could see that the demand for fertilization by women very close to 40 is very high. The woman’s fertility can drop on average from 40% to 15% near the age of 40 and then the demand for in vitro fertilization becomes a very attractive way out. However, not only the most mature mothers benefit from in vitro fertilization or advanced reproductive medicine, they can also become female mothers who have some severe infertility problem, anovulation, obstructed tubes, early ligation without reversal, couples with vasectomized men and so on, this method can help make many couples’ dreams come true.

Dr Felipe explained the differences between in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination. He also spoke about the procedure and who can carry out the fertilization process . As it is a very extensive and very comprehensive subject, I opened space and this is the first post in the series about in vitro fertilization and its procedures.

But what is in vitro fertilization, how is it done and what is the new procedure?

Artificial fertilization was first done simply by collecting the male sperm and collecting the egg from the woman and they were simply put together for fertilization. This process was widely used in the early days of in vitro fertilization in the 1980s, and even the first test tube baby was made this way, joining the male sperm with the mother’s egg outside the womb. This was an innovative technique and a giant step in fertility medicine and a revolution at the time.

With time and methods were advancing, IVF (in vitro fertilization) evolved and gained a new version and this is even the most used and most modern. IVF evolved into ICSI Intra Citoplasmatic Sperm Inject (cytoplasmic injection) which is nothing more than the insertion of a single sperm into the egg in the laboratory through a super fine needle. This procedure was a revolution, because it made the whole process much simpler and also more profitable, with a success rate of up to 80% or higher compared to 60% in IVF. It all starts with ovulation induction in the woman, inducing drugs are used so that the woman produces a maximum amount of eggs possible so that the best ones can be chosen and also made thecollection of man’s sperm on the same day as the egg collection.

In order to join the sperm with the egg it is necessary to choose the best ones, so after collecting the materials, they are analyzed and selected the best in terms of morphology, motility, size and health. The eggs are harvested and also selected at the ideal degree of maturity and then once together the evolution will really say whether it will be an appropriate zygote for the transfer to the maternal uterus and thus enable the birth of a beautiful and healthy baby. We can say that only the best of the best are transferred and the surplus can be saved (frozen) for a new attempt if the first is unsuccessful. The number of embryos to be transferred can be decided by the couple and the doctor since each case has its particularities.

Follow the next post that will come out next Monday . Another part of Dr Felipe Lazar’s interview on in vitro fertilization method , ICSI and artificial insemination.

My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.

Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
