Which mother of a girl who resists the variety of ties, bands and ribbons to further embellish her princesses? They are different models with different prints, colors and fabrics to match all the clothes. But did you know that the bandage on the baby’s head can be harmful to the baby’s sleep and still cause reflux?
We believe that this information is very little known by mothers, since it is so common to see baby girls with giant bands walking around. Many even leave the maternity ward parading with their outfits. But, after all, what does the use of the headband on the baby have to do with the quality of sleep and reflux ? According to the osteopath Dr. José Eduardo Souza in a report through his Facebook, he attended a baby who was suffering from gastroesophageal reflux problems and sleeping very badly and related the tight head band that the baby was wearing.
His report generated discussions and many debates, including among pediatricians who do not believe that the use of the band is directly related to the problems. Obviously, the use of the headband on the baby’s head should be comfortable and produced in a fabric that does not squeeze or hurt his head. According to the expert’s analysis, the baby’s head has a suture called the occiptomastoid that is automatically tightened when using the band. Next to this suture is a nerve that completely controls the gastrointestinal system, so the use of the band tightening this region may be linked to the symptoms.
According to him, the babies themselves show signs that the band is too tight and bothering their heads, for example, when they move nonstop trying to get it out of their head or get irritated and sleepy. Due to its skull connections, it is recommended to also observe the changes in sleep when the baby wears the headband, as well as the increase in reflux occurrences. This monitoring must occur with the pediatrician who will indicate the appropriate treatment as well as observing each symptom.
Baby Headbands and Tiaras Care
No doctor and specialist is asking moms to stop decorating and beautifying their princesses, but they recommend caution when choosing the bands and tiaras they will use. As they still do not speak, they will not be able to say that it is hurting or bothering them, so babies count on their parents’ common sense.
When choosing, choose bands of delicate and not too tight fabrics, even if you have to keep adjusting them all the time. Tiaras should also be comfortable and preferably do not mark the head when removed. All parts, clothing and accessories for babies and children should be prioritized for comfort, clearly aiming at their comfort and safety.
Some accessories can be easily swallowed and in the case of the straps when they are too tight, trying to remove the baby may end up hanging itself or hurting the neck. These are risks that we must be aware of, that due to vanity a big accident can happen.
If the baby has hair, abuse ties with loops or elastics, but if you don’t have it you can count on the help of glue from accessories such as Girlie Glue that allows you to glue bows and accessories even if I don’t have hair. You can make your baby beautiful, but aiming for their comfort and health, paying attention to each different symptom. If in doubt, talk to your trusted pediatrician!
My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.
Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
