Boldo is a popular medicinal plant from South America, also called boldo do-chile, boldo afragans or boldo-real. The plant is widely used as a herbal medicine for the liver. Its scientific name is Peumus boldus Molina. Its tea leaves can be bought in health food stores and in some pharmacies or even in the backyards of some houses.
Which Part of the Bilberry is Used?

Bilberry can treat liver and gallbladder problems by stimulating the production of bile , and in addition treat symptoms related to it, such as jaundice, hepatitis (without being acute) or gallstones and gallstones. It can also be used to treat poor digestion , with its laxative property that decreases constipation, flatulence and improves gastrointestinal health as a whole.
It is also said that boldo is used to treat gout, cystitis, headache, earache, insomnia and cold sweats. Its effects can be antispasmodic, anesthetic and sedative, tonics and deworming, and can even help to eliminate bacteria from sexually transmitted diseases, such as syphilis and gonorrhea. It is also believed that boldo may help to thin the blood, preventing the formation of thrombosis.
How to Use Boldo
Pocket tea is prepared from its dry leaves, and one cup of water should be boiled for each tablespoon of chopped boldo leaves. Then, let the muffled infusion rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
For liver and gallbladder problems, sick people should have a cup of bilberry tea before meals and at bedtime for up to 3 weeks. In the case of diarrhea control, half a cup of bilberry tea several times a day, at short intervals, can help the infectious agent be eliminated more quickly.
In the case of constipation or constipation , the ideal is to have two glasses of boldo tea between meals, two to three times a day. And for problems with urine infection or elevated uric acid, two cups of bilberry tea a day is sufficient. For poor digestion, the infusion should be taken before meals, with warm tea.
Important: Boldo should not be consumed for a long time, because after a few weeks it already causes side effects such as seizures and even kidney failure, intestinal injuries, running the risk of death.
The ideal and recommended treatment is for the tea to be used for a week and stay for another week and a half without drinking, or for a one-time treatment, not exceeding 3 weeks.
Boldo’s contraindications
Boldo’s contraindications are for pregnant women, as tea is at risk of miscarriage , and in patients with inflamed and obstructed bile ducts, patients with acute hepatitis or pancreatitis , boldo is also contraindicated, which may worsen the lesions.
The boldo can have drug interaction with anticoagulants, as it enhances its effects generating the risk of hemorrhages . Therefore, patients taking these medications should not take boldo. Symptoms of side effects of bilberry tea can be vomiting, diarrhea and nervous system problems.
