Female fertility is a relatively short period in a woman’s life. It begins when you menstruate and ends when you enter the climacteric, that is, menopause.
All of this is possible due to the hormonal function of the organism, it works so that the spikes of some hormones happen and these will make the fertile period happen. In menopause these hormones usually stop having these spikes every month. But is it still possible for a woman to become pregnant at menopause?
How is the Fertile Period of Women’s Life
When the girl’s body is able to receive a pregnancy, it is demonstrated by menarche , the first menstruation. There, the first ovulation occurs and consequently the first menstruation, due to the lack of fertilization in that cycle, in fact, this is how all the menstrual cycles of a woman occur . When fertilization doesn’t happen, menstruation happens.
Everything starts when FSH is released by the pituitary gland, it will stimulate the eggs already present in the ovaries for maturation and finally, release for the pregnancy to happen. There in the ovaries the hormones present, progesterone , LH and estrogens, play their role and make the follicle mature , the endometrium (wall of blood inside the uterus) thickens and finally the woman ovulates.
How is the Entry of Women in Menopause?
In menopause, women stop having these hormonal cycles, FSH stops being released as before and then the ovaries will gradually fall asleep. Consequently, other hormones are no longer stimulated, mainly estrogen. Therefore, the woman is quite dry and has several uncomfortable symptoms during the climacteric and menopause phase.
The ovaries are no longer stimulated, so they are no longer functional. Menopause occurs when a woman stops menstruating for 12 to 24 consecutive months and when the age is close to 40 to 55 years.
But is it possible to become pregnant during menopause?
When menopause sets in once in a woman’s life, it is NOT possible for her to become pregnant naturally . That’s because she stops ovulating and has a drastic drop in all hormones linked to fertility.
The ovaries no longer release eggs, it no longer has the inner layer of blood that is necessary for the baby to settle, and finally, sometimes the uterus reduces its size quite a bit, even needing a hormone replacement.
However, there are cases in which some fertility treatments can make pregnancy viable with hormonal preparation and eggs donated by other women. This is only possible if the woman seeks a doctor specializing in fertility and, after doing a battery of tests, check her physical condition so that the possibility of pregnancy is confirmed by the doctor.
But what about when women have not fully entered menopause?
It is possible that when menopause has not yet established itself, the woman in the climacteric process (beginning of menopause, transition phase) becomes pregnant. This is possible because the hormones have not completely stopped working in the body . The woman in the climacteric is starting to have her fertility hormones on the decline, but it is possible that she has spikes and ovulates.
Important: Women with installed menopause do not get pregnant, but in the beginning of menopause, climacteric yes, they can get pregnant .
Pregnancy already in the climacteric stage is possible but must be surrounded by care. This is because the body may not supply the body with the hormonal dosages required in pregnancy.
The process also becomes complicated, because in the vast majority of cases, the woman who becomes pregnant in the climacteric, has passed 40 years of age, when all pregnancies are considered at risk because of the advanced age for fertility in the eyes of medicine. Follow-up must be strict with the obstetrician specialized in high-risk prenatal care .
Early Menopause
Young women may suffer from this ovarian failure. It is important to remember that everyone should be aware of the absence of menstruation for long periods. The climacteric can start at any stage of fertile life, it is enough for the woman to stop producing the necessary hormones for ovulation to occur every cycle or in most of them.
Therefore, if you have stopped menstruating for 3 months , it is recommended that you see a doctor to do hormonal tests and rule out early ovarian failure. If treated in time, there is a way to get pregnant naturally.
