It was if the time that a pregnant woman should spend 9 months of gestation in absolute rest and that no physical effort was allowed. Currently we see some examples that it is possible to go through a pregnancy and gym in the same period, providing a healthy life and maintaining the routine that the woman already followed. Obviously, there are cases of high -risk pregnancies that, by medical recommendation, efforts are prohibited during the entire gestational period, but those that have a quiet and risk-free pregnancy, why not continue practicing the exercises and routine that I already lived daily?
For those who have an active physical life and are concerned about their physical shape, when they become pregnant, they should inform the responsible obstetrician about their routine and only after the evaluation and release of the same should the exercises be maintained. In some cases, only the practice of lighter exercises is indicated, especially in the first trimester, where the fertilized egg is still fixing on the uterine walls, and any great effort can cause a miscarriage.
For those who do not usually do physical exercises and decide to start in the gestational phase, care with the first trimester should be further strengthened, but it can be the first step to start a healthier life and create better habits that will extend even after the birth of the baby. Recalling that the gym during pregnancy should not be sought in order to gain a fit body and gain muscle, but rather to control weight gain and also to maintain a healthy routine including helping at the time of delivery, in addition to leaving the stronger body to face the big changes during this period.
Pregnancy and gym can be a perfect combination, but you must follow a strict monitoring both with the obstetrician who will assess the mother’s health and good gestational evolution and with a specialist within the gym who will assist and indicate the exercises, appropriate devices and dose the correct time.
Exaggerated Vanity or Body Care?
Currently we come across on TV and on the internet with some pictures of models and athletes who pose with their pregnant tummy healed, which caused a lot of controversy and division of opinions since it is so natural and expected a huge and round belly that only tends to grow as the months progress. The most recent case is that of model Sarah Stage who posted pictures on her social network showing her nine-month-old pregnant belly completely healed and far from the image we are used to seeing of a pregnant woman during this period. The comments were divided into opinions from those who were shocked by his body, to those who questioned the baby’s health.

Questions like: Where is the baby in that belly? Or is it developing properly and is healthy is some of the thousands of questions that arose and were answered by the model stating how upset she was with the comments and making it clear that both mother and daughter are doing very well. But how far does the woman’s vanity go, even putting the baby’s health at risk?
There are those who criticize, those who are frightened and those who support debating that it is essential to take care of the body and keep vanity up to date during pregnancy. But is not the practice of exercises so intense to continue with a belly so healed when it should be a moment of change?
Another case is the fitness model Bella Falconi who has been posting pictures of her enviable silhouette at 4 months of gestation. Even stating that it is not her intention to have a “fitness pregnancy”, apparently it is the path she is following as well. Some already speculate if this will be the new fashion, and if the belly so dreamed will give way to bellies with only a small bump already reaching 9 months of pregnancy or will only be isolated cases of women who work with their body and for fear of changes they work out tirelessly even in a period that should slow down and enjoy the new curves .
During pregnancy the focus is on the health of the mother and baby and their development, if the monitoring is happening properly and through the exams the baby’s evolution is within the expected, there is no reason to worry. After all, belly size was never a sign of health and of a big and healthy baby, each woman has her biotype and this moment is different from the others, so it’s time to enjoy and be happy.

My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.
Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
