I took Ovulation Inducer and didn’t get pregnant! And now?

Index

Much more common than you think, is the fact of inducing ovulation and not being able to get pregnant. The clomiphene-based ovulation inducer is a great palliative, but it does not work miracles! Even 6 consecutive cycles can be induced without success. But do you know why this is?

When trying to get pregnant, you may have the false impression that some external factors, in this case medication, will speed up the waiting process. But that’s not how it works. I have seen several women who try a few months, about 3, 4 cycles, to consider the possibility of using the ovulation inducer even without medical advice. If 1, 2, 3 pass and then 6 cycles and nothing! Is this normal? What interferes with the use of the inductor? The simple fact of using medications that induce hormones for ovulation does not guarantee that the woman will be able to get pregnant . This is due to several factors that can hinder the pregnancy from happening. Some possibilities of failure in the process are:

Lack of response to medication: Sometimes, the dose of hormones contained in the inducer is not enough for ovulation to occur in certain organisms. Sometimes the woman’s reproductive system does not react positively and as expected to the inducers’ stimulus. Therefore, it is necessary for the woman to use the medication with medical supervision, if there is a suspicion of low dosage, the doctor will advise a gradual increase in the dose. The most recommended dose to start is 50mg and this value can be extended to 200mg (extremely high dose liable to many side effects only applied in extreme cases of anovulation) for 5 days. At other times, the stimulus of the medication is also not adequate. Some women only respond to induction medication in an injectable form.

Application of the drug in the wrong cases: Not all women can or need an ovulation inducer. The most contraindicated cases for the use of this type of medication are women with obstructed tubes or polycystic ovaries. In the case of obstructed tubes, it is assumed that ovulation would not help if the tubes did not let the sperm pass through the tube or if it does, it is possible to have a tubal pregnancy or tubes. Already with polycystic ovaries, induction of ovulation can aggravate the disease. So be very careful when using ovulation inducers, each case is different.

Alteration of other hormones: Sometimes the ovulation inducer can make the wrong interaction with other hormones in the body. It can cause low estrogen, considerable increase in progesterone and others. It is important to know that just using the ovulation inducer is not sure that the body will react positively.

Sexual intercourse in the wrong period: Knowing when to have sexual intercourse is essential! Sometimes the fertile period with the inductor goes blank and every effort made by the body is in vain. The correct thing is to have sex within 5 to 20 days after the end of the medication. Relationships on alternate days (every other day) will help the conception to happen.

How does the Ovulation Inductor Work?

Clomiphene-based drugs induce hormones like FSH that stimulate follicles for ovulation to happen. When the medication ends, the hormone of the day is the LH (luteinizing hormone) that will play a role in the follicles maturation for ovulation. As soon as the levels reach an ideal level for the organism, the follicle (or follicles) is released and ovulation happens. However, some women have hormonal difficulties even with the ovulation inducer and do not have this hormonal peak to release the follicles . In these cases, some doctors prescribe HCG-based drugs to help release the eggs.

In addition, the ovulation inducer can act directly and negatively on the woman’s endometrium and leaves him unable to receive the embryo in case of fertilization. It is not possible to know when this phenomenon happens, however, if the medication has been ineffective for 3 or 6 months , you must see a new form of induction together with your doctor.

Is it possible to get pregnant in the first cycle with ovulation inducer? Yea! However, we have to realize that this is the exception and not the rule. Even if a friend of yours managed to get pregnant in the first cycle with an inducer, it is possible that you will not be able to even with 6 months of induction, because each organism reacts in a different way to the medication. Overall, the medication works much better in the second and third cycles with induction. That’s because the body would have time to adapt to the new hormonal load that arrives in the body. Pain is common after using clomiphene. Abdominal, lateral and lower belly pains are constantly reported, but if the pains become very severe, especially when more than 50mg per day is used, it is possible that it is an ovarian hyperstimulation. Too much attention to symptoms!

Never use ovulation-inducing medication without your doctor’s guidance.

My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.

Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
