Out-of-Period Sex Can Also Help Increase Fertility

Older research shows that having sex during the ovulation window increases the chances of the couple having a baby. But recent studies point to a new probability, which does not matter when it is done or the fertile period , but it is possible to get pregnant outside the ovulation window. Researchers at Indiana University have found that sexual intercourse even outside the ovulation window provides physiological changes in the female body increasing her fertility.

The recommendation for partners who wish to have a child is that sexual intercourse should be maintained regularly in order to increase the chances of pregnancy even in the period considered non-fertile. According to the report of the researcher and author of the study Tierney Lorenz, it was communicated to the entire press: “This is the first research that points out that sexual activity regularly promotes immunities to the female body, increasing fertility and preparing the body for pregnancy”.

“It’s a new answer to such an old charade: How can sex outside the fertile window improve fertility?”

While previous research claims that immunity is altered during pregnancy, in the postpartum period and during the menstrual cycle. Current research shows that sex acts as a regulator of the female immune system. Some conclusions from the research authors were recently published in the magazines Fertility and Sterility and in Physiology and Behavior , and were concluded after observing the menstrual cycle of 30 healthy women. Half of the women were sexually active while the other half did not have sex.

In the first survey, the difference was found in the assisting cells of the female body, where major changes were found in the T cells and proteins in the body of sexually active women. In the second survey, it was discovered that the levels of antibodies or immunoglobulin was also a very large variable between the two groups of women where fertility was much higher in sexually active women.

While T cells help control the body’s immune response, immunoglobulin assists in fighting invaders in the body, preventing infections. The female body is prepared to defend itself from external problems, this also includes sperm and the arrival of a fetus, for this reason pregnancy may not succeed. The body’s own immunity can cause abortions and make pregnancy impossible.

Researchers noted that in sexually active women, levels of type 2 T cells during the menstrual cycle are higher. During this period the lining of the uterus thickens in preparation for receiving a pregnancy. This cell makes it impossible for the organism to detect the presence of the fetus or sperm , thus allowing conception. Higher levels of higher type 1 T cells have also been observed in sexually active women during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle , which is the time for ovarian follicles to mature.

Changes in immunoglobulin levels were also observed in this group of women. Immunoglobulin A antibodies normally reside in the mucosa of the female reproductive system and can directly affect fertilization. The levels of type G immunoglobulin that are found in the blood and that help prevent diseases that can affect the uterus were also found at a high level in sexually active women.

The researchers noted that none of these changes and preparations of the body to receive a pregnancy occurred in women who do not have sex. That is why they state that sexually active women have their immune systems prepared in advance to receive the pregnancy and have greater chances of fertility. Lorenz and his fellow researchers report that their findings will impact fertility treatment and will assist doctors in making recommendations to couples looking to become pregnant .

Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled.
