How to know if I’m pregnant? Symptoms and When to Test

Index

Knowing when to take the test can make a big difference in anxiety!

Doubt of 9 out of 10 women in childbearing age who want to become pregnant: how do I know if I’m pregnant? Although the symptoms are practically a cliché, sometimes they just aren’t enough to determine whether the woman is pregnant or not. There are more factors than those already talked about and known by so many women! So, how do I know if I am pregnant before my menstrual delay , what symptoms to take into account and when should I take a test to clear up the doubt?

Let’s start with the cycle. Some women have short cycles, others have long cycles and others are extremely irregular. To make a small initial calculation, we must first know when the fertile period took place. In cases of irregular cycles , this mission may not be that easy. But it is still possible to know more or less when ovulation happened . If the woman is trying to get pregnant, she will be aware of when she had fertile mucus, or when she got wetter. These are the two main symptoms of ovulation. Also, the woman can feel the pains of the fertile period without even seeing other signs. Normally the woman ovulates in the middle of the cycle, but in isolated cases, there may be late ovulation, so it is very important to be aware.

After identifying the period of possible ovulation, we can make a simple container. Calculate at least 12 days of the possible most fertile day with intercourse, and thus determine when a pregnancy test can be done . Symptoms can also help you find out if you are pregnant, but remember, not every woman has symptoms, and not every symptom is pregnancy!

How do I know if I’m pregnant before the delay?

It is rarely possible to catch the positive before the delay. Symptoms can be hormonal, progesterone rise after ovulation. It is very important to keep this fact in mind so as not to create false expectations. Possible symptoms of pregnancy can be:

  • Sore and swollen breasts
  • Morning or daytime nausea
  • Abdominal bloating at night
  • Pains on one side below the navel or both
  • Appetite (excess or lack of it)
  • Irritability

Are these symptoms familiar to you? Yes, they can also be PMS . So it is much better to wait for the menstrual delay and then do a test to check. How do I know if I’m pregnant just by the symptoms? Wait for the menstrual delay, if the symptoms persist, in addition to the absence of menstruation for more than 5 days, then , it’s time to do a test!

If the 5-day test is negative, then repeat in a few days. Remember that HCG doubles every 48 hours and the sensitivity of the methods may not be enough to get the small amount of initial HCG in the body. It is no coincidence that almost all laboratories that do the beta HCG exam, reproduce a note at the bottom of their reports:

“The clinical suggestion is to repeat the test one week after the date of the result of this test, if pregnancy is still suspected”

If by chance you don’t want to get pregnant, take medication to avoid it and have had sex, know that the chances of getting pregnant in these conditions are much lower. Yes, you may have symptoms, but the vast majority are hormonal! How do I know if I am pregnant even if I take contraceptives? Simple! Wait for the 7-day break . If menstruation does not come and some symptoms appear, get tested to check. Just as for those who do not take contraceptive medication, if the doubt persists, repeat the test in one week if you do not menstruate.

To find out if you are pregnant even without a test, pay attention to your body. See the signs it gives you throughout your menstrual cycle. Also, if possible, use methods that help to arrive at the diagnosis more quickly, recommend the basal temperature  with the help of a digital basal thermometer and also, follow the cycle with the Billings method. Any questions? Don’t be shy, leave it in the comments!

Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
