In every consultation with the gynecologist , we hear about the importance of Pap smears in women’s lives. It is an uncomfortable test for some, embarrassing for others, but the truth is that it is an extremely important test and should be performed at least once a year and at most 2 years, mainly in sexually active women, because not all diseases and infections they give warnings that something is going wrong, and the sooner it is discovered the faster and more efficient the treatment will be .
Infection in the cervix , for example, does not always alert you that something is happening. It may show no signs, pain or discomfort for the woman and, over time, the situation worsens, and the infection may pass to other nearby regions such as ovaries and tubes. Symptoms they usually have for cervical infection are:
- Smelly discharge that may have different colors (brown, yellow, white or gray)
- Bleeding escapes, especially during or after intercourse.
- Pain and burning in the vagina, during sex and to urinate.
Some women feel pain in the lower part of the belly, presenting a latent discomfort, resembling a strong colic and in some cases even menstrual delay .
What are the causes of cervical infection?
- Allergy to condoms , spermicides and diaphragms.
- High number of sexual partners
- Germs contracted during sex (HPV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia) or even germs normally found in the vagina such as Candida albicans
Many of the cases, too, contracted through poor intimate hygiene and even injuries caused during vaginal delivery or vaginal showering.
How to Treat Cervical Infection?
Once the cause of the cervical infection is detected, the gynecologist will prescribe the appropriate treatment for the infection. In cases of cervical infection caused by germs or microorganisms, treatment with antibiotics is usually prescribed and also prescribed for the sexual partner, even if he has no symptoms .
As for the treatment for allergic causes of products such as condoms , diaphragms and products such as spermicides, the treatment will be to suspend the use of these products. In cases that are aggravated by the delay in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical infection, and which have already reached the endometrium , treatment will continue through injectable or venal medication. Remembering that the infection in the uterus does not make the woman sterile and if it occurs during pregnancy , it must be treated properly and as soon as possible, so that it is not transmitted to the baby during delivery.

My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.
Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
