Accidents with Children – Inevitable Scares

Index

Suddenly that scream and there comes the cry! Healthy kids don’t stop and accidents with children can happen at any time. One of these days I got the biggest scare! Melissa fell from the top of the sofa where she was jumping (brother’s influence) and then the cry. Of course, such a fall causes us to be worried, after all, it wasn’t a little tip for nothing. Accidents with children are common , sometimes the mother’s conscience is heavy, but in situations like the ones that have already happened to me, just a blink of the eye is enough to happen even when we take care and keep an eye on it all the time.

I don’t forget the worst scare I had with my son, which was a choking of my eldest daughter. I confess that I was traumatized for a while, and that moment still comes to mind. Those who do not know my son, think that I exaggerate, but he lives, lives jumping and from here and there. Today he is 7 and when he falls it is for real. One day on one of those kangaroo adventures , he fell on his mouth at the corner of the stairs, tore his gums and inside his mouth too. Luckily he didn’t break his tooth or break anything and he didn’t even need stitches, but there are cases where it is necessary.

When to seek medical help?

Child falls should be monitored after they happen and there are some aspects that must be taken into account and observed when they happen.

  • Signs of concussion such as vomiting and excessive sleep
  • Lack of consciousness (fainting)
  • Complaint of dizziness
  • Suspected fracture
  • Observe if the baby or child is bleeding and if there are cuts
  • In more severe cases, see if the child is breathing
  • Lack of reaction (apathy) even with the child breathing

There are cases when you need to take it to the hospital, and if it is to reassure Mom, then do it! Usually child falls are simple, we just have to keep an eye out and for any signs of change, taking them to the hospital is a good idea. They say that the child should not sleep after a fall , but this applies, as it is much easier to observe any neurological changes that he may have, the observation must be 24 hours. If he falls asleep keep an eye out and try to talk to him, if he has reactions there is no problem.

Rooster!! That scares a lot! Care after the fall can help it not to appear or at least be less. A cold compress, ice pack or as my mother used to do, a spoon on top of the rooster can soothe. But know that the rooster is not as serious as it may appear. If the child’s fall results in a broken tooth, there are ways to paste the piece, just put the broken tooth in the milk and immediately take it to a dentist. If the baby falls out of bed and this is one of the most common accidents, if the baby is acting normally just watch, if it appears to be more serious than that, the ideal is that a doctor can see your child.

Remember if Mom, accidents with children happen, scares people get tired of going through and if your child is the naughty type like mine, no matter how redoubled the care, there will always be some scare ! The secret is to try to remain calm to take care of the little one as well as possible!

Bjus and see you!

My name is Dr. Alexis Hart I am 38 years old, I am the mother of 3 beautiful children! Different ages, different phases 16 years, 12 years and 7 years. In love with motherhood since always, I found it difficult to make my dreams come true, and also some more after I was already a mother.

Since I imagined myself as a mother, in my thoughts everything seemed to be much easier and simpler than it really was, I expected to get pregnant as soon as I wished, but it wasn’t that simple. The first pregnancy was smooth, but my daughter’s birth was very troubled. Joana was born in 2002 with a weight of 2930kg and 45cm, from a very peaceful cesarean delivery but she had already been born with congenital pneumonia due to a broken bag not treated with antibiotics even before delivery.
